BDR is two for two at 2005 Subaru Challenge

Saturday, September 17th, 2005

For Immediate Release, September 17 2005

BDR members Brandon and John took 1st and 3rd, respectively in a very tight STX class at the 2005 Subaru Challenge.

The Subaru Challenge festivities kicked off the night before, at the Clarion Hotel in Aberdeen. The bar special was not as good as it was in 2004, but good times were nonetheless had. Ed, who was present but not participating, was responsible for free beer for several MAIC members.

The 2004 Subaru Challenge had been a rainy, disgusting mess. Neither John nor Brandon had done particularly well. Shortly after the second heat, the rain had disappeared, as if to say, “I hate you, STX drivers.” The Subaru creedo “pray for rain” does not apply when every car at the event is a Subaru.

Fortunately, the 2005 Challenge had much better weather. It was bright and sunny, without any hint of the miserable weather that had plagued the 2004 Challenge. Good driving weather.

In an STX class where the top six drivers were separated by eight tenths of a second, Brandon finished first overall. John finished .164 back in third. Both were trophy spots!

In the Superstar Challenge Round, Brandon and John were both subject to a crunch-time push by Mark, who finished 1st in STX in the Challenge round. Brandon took second and John held 3rd. After getting a solid 44.8 on his first Challenge run, John backed into a sissy Sebastian Loeb “don’t hit any cones” posture and threw up a bogus 45.5. This mistake will not be repeated at the 2006 event :)

This is always an excellent event. Kudos to Subaru of America and the local region (including and especially Don Beyer Subaru) for stepping up to promote participation in motorsports (a stark contrast to the position of pretty much every auto manufacturer other than Mazda).
